This week’s book haul…

Firstly, a book s which could so easily be a ‘beautiful book’, Sarah Perry’s ‘The Essex Serpent’, which has had rave pre-publication praise…


As for today’s charity shop derby, a couple of classics…and a Dorothy Whipple.

I LOVED Dorothy Whipple’s ‘They Were Sisters’ and look forward to this one. I think she has the best writer’s name EVER and whenever I think of her I cannot help but smile at the terrible snobbery inflicted on her…apparently in the early days of ‘Virago’ books they used a litmus test for publishing lost classics – ‘The Whipple Line’ – in that any book deemed less merit than a Dorothy Whipple would never be published. Poor Dorothy…
